Meskel Square
Meskel Square (Amharic: መስቀል አደባባይ, romanized: mesik’el ādebabay, lit. ’Cross Square’) is a public square in the city of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. It is often a site for public gatherings or for demonstrations and festivals, notably, the Meskel Festival from which it takes its name.
The Meskel Festival has been celebrated for over 1,600 years.[1] The word “Meskel” means “cross” and the festival commemorates the moment when the crucifix was revealed to Empress Helena of Constantinople, mother of Constantine the Great.
Sr. George
Saint George’s Cathedral is an Ethiopian Orthodox church in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The cathedral is noted for its distinctive octagonal form. It is located at the northern end of Churchill Road in the city.
National Museum Of Ethiopia
The museum houses Ethiopia’s artistic treasures. It contains many precious local archaeological finds such as the fossilized remains of early hominids, the most famous of which is “Lucy,” the partial skeleton of a specimen of Australopithecus afarensis. Recently added to the basement gallery is a display on Selam, found between 2000 and 2004. This archaic fossil is estimated to date from 3.3 million years ago.
Holy Trinity Cathedral
Holy Trinity Cathedral, also known in Amharic as Kidist Selassie, is the highest-ranking Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo cathedral in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. It was built to commemorate the Ethiopian victory over Italian occupation and is an important place of worship in Ethiopia, alongside other cathedrals such as the Church of Our Lady Mary of Zion in Axum.
Ethnological Museum
The Ethnological Museum, Addis Ababa, in Ethiopia, is a public institution dedicated to ethnology and culture. The Ethnological Museum houses anthropological, musicological, and cultural objects. The Ethnological Museum is the first university museum in Ethiopia. The Museum is located on the main Campus of Addis Ababa University which houses the Institute of Ethiopian Studies.
Unity Park
Unity Park is an amusement park located in the Arat Kilo district of Addis Ababa, in the compound of the National Palace. Established in October 2019 with a total of 20 hectares inside the palace compound, it features a zoo and historical artifacts with entrance by tickets purchased through online services such as Ethio telecom and using Commercial Bank of Ethiopia.
Friendship Square
It is the biggest urban park in Addis Ababa Ethiopia The park is right next to Unity Park which holds inside it a zoo, and historical archives.
The park is located in the political center of Addis Ababa where government offices as the Prime Minister and parliament are next to and close by. The park has an artificial lake, a square to gather and also water fountain lights at nighttime. It also contains lots of flowers with diverse species of flora.
