Tour Plan

Arrive in Mekele via flight from Addis Ababa. Drive to the Gheralta Mountains, known for their stunning rock-hewn churches perched on cliffs. Visit Abuna Yemata Guh, famous for its challenging climb and incredible frescoes inside. Explore nearby churches such as Debre Tsion or Mariyam Korkor. Overnight in a lodge near Gheralta.

After breakfast, visit more churches in the Gheralta area or nearby sites like Daniel Korkor or Mikael Imba. In the afternoon, drive to Axum (approx. 3–4 hours). Evening at leisure in Axum. Overnight in Axum.

Full day exploring Axum, the ancient capital of the Kingdom of Aksum. Visit the Obelisks of Axum, the Queen of Sheba’s Palace (ruins), St. Mary of Zion Cathedral, and the Church of Our Lady Mary of Zion which holds the Ark of the Covenant (according to tradition). Explore the ancient tombs and the archeological museum. Overnight in Axum.

Fly back to Addis Ababa. End of tour.
