Tour Plan

Drive from Gondar to Debark (park headquarters) for registration and pick up scouts. Continue into the park to Sankaber. Short warm-up hike near the escarpment. Overnight camping at Sankaber.

Trek through highland terrain, cross streams, and pass the stunning Jinbar Waterfall. Wildlife sightings may include Gelada baboons and birds of prey. Overnight camping at Geech.

Morning hike to the spectacular viewpoint of Imet Gogo (3,926 m), then continue to Inatye (4,070 m) and descend to Chenek. This area is rich in wildlife including the rare Walia Ibex. Overnight camping at Chenek.

Start an early and long trek today. Cross Bwahit Pass (4,200 m) with dramatic views, then descend through mountain villages to Ambiko (3,200 m), the base for Ras Dashen ascent. Overnight camping at Ambiko.

Start before dawn for the summit of Ras Dashen, Ethiopia’s highest peak. After reaching the top and enjoying the views, descend back to Ambiko. Overnight camping.

Retrace the route back to Chenek. Enjoy more scenic views and possibly encounter wildlife again. Overnight camping at Chenek.

After breakfast, drive from Chenek to Debark and continue back to Gondar. End of trek.
