Tour Plan
Morning flight from Addis Ababa to Semera, the capital of the Afar Region. Meet your guide and transfer into the Afar desert via 4x4. Drive through volcanic landscapes to the base of Erta Ale volcano. In the evening, begin your trek to the summit (about 3 hours). Watch the spectacular lava lake glowing in the night sky.
After sunrise and breakfast, descend from the volcano. Drive across lava fields and desert terrain to Lake Asale and the settlement of Hamed Ela. En route, enjoy views of salt plains and desert mirages. In the late afternoon, enjoy the surreal beauty of the salt flats during sunset.
Overnight: Open-air camping in Hamed Ela
Early morning visit to the incredible Dallol area, one of the hottest and lowest places on Earth. Explore bright sulfur fields, acid pools, and salt chimneys. Watch Afar salt miners and camel caravans in action. After lunch, drive back to Semera for your evening flight to Addis Ababa. End of tour.
